Functional Test Procedures

Functional Test Procedures on the Iron Bird, preparatory to the first flight, began on the 26th of February 2019. As per the program scheduling, these trials are aimed at providing the complete closed-loop functionality of all on-board integrated systems. Therefore, Flight Control System, sensors, propulsion unit, fuel system, electrical distribution system, data link and safety recovery system have been fully tested.

Tests are managed directly through the Ground Control Station developed by Sky Eye System, by which the operative mission is set-up and executed automatically, through preassigned Way Points. The Pilot can also take the full and direct control of the UAV, in case of needs, or to change the mission in real-time.

The results gathered from the Functional Test Procedures showcase the excellence of the project in terms of on-board system reliability and of command and control performances.
